PHILIPS & O'NEILL TO LAUNCH TWO NEW HEADPHONE MODELS; JORDY SMITH JOINS TEAM

Philips and O’Neill are cranking up their successful headphone collaboration yet another notch come Spring 2012 with the anticipated launch of two new headphone models, namely ‘The Construct’ and ‘The Tread’.

PHILIPS & O'NEILL TO LAUNCH TWO NEW HEADPHONE MODELS;

The two new arrivals to the range of super-durable headphones, designed to withstand the physical demands that go hand-in-hand with every type of active lifestyle, have been given the official stamp of approval by the Tested on Animals team riders, and more specifically from brand new headphones team rider Jordy Smith, one of the Dream Tour's surfers, and fellow team rider Malia Manuel.

PHILIPS & ONEILL LAUNCH TWO NEW HEADPHONE MODELS’The Construct’, aka Jordy's heaphones of choice, is undoubtedly our toughest headphone yet. Featuring a TR90 flexible headband and reinforced cables, ‘The Construct’ reaps the benefits of a robust construction that also includes safe-release cans to deal with the threat of heavy impact forces. Available in classic black or white colorways, ‘The Construct’ backs up its no-nonsense credentials with superior comfort and sound thanks to noise isolating soft ear cushioning that deliver the kind of deep, dynamic bass that Philips | O'Neill headphones are known for.

"I'm really stoked to join the team," says Jordy, "I love my music, so the last thing I want to worry about when I'm traveling the world and surfing for weeks at a time is my headphones crumbling under the pressure of life on the road. And after testing out ‘The Construct’, I know for sure that these headphones have got what it takes to rise to the challenge."

’The Tread’, meanwhile, is exactly what the in-ear headphone market has been crying out for. Built to resist heavy impact forces, ‘The Tread’ punches well above its weight thanks to a treadproof metal housing that protects the drivers from impacts of up to 100kg. A tough kevlar-reinforced, tangle-free cable combined with reinforced strain reliefs and connectors combine to deliver unrivaled durability in its class.

Malia Manuel, at the heart of the new generation of surfers, is stoked with the result of all the R&D that has gone into ‘The Tread’. "You get the best of both worlds with ‘The Tread’ - they're small and perfectly formed, and at the same time they're also super-tough. Plus they have absolutely no problems delivering the kind of sound quality I expect from my headphones”, says the newly qualified ASP Women's World Tour surfer. “In the past, I've always shied away from one-size-fits-all in-ear headphones because they're not always comfortable to wear. With ‘The Tread’, I have a choice of 3 differently sized ear sleeves which means that's one less thing I need to worry about."

’The Construct’ and ‘The Tread’ will be available in Spring 2012.
