The great Surf-Devil retrospect on 2011 Print E-mail
Sunday, 25 December 2011 12:16

Amazing how time flies! Only a few days are left until we are welcoming 2012. But before celebrating we'd like to take a look back on 2011 and on what has happened.

For the surf-world the year had a lot up in it's sleeve: Kelly Slater became world-champion for an incredible 11th time. The only 19 year old John John Florence has won the Vans World Cup, no one could beat the US-Team at the ISA World Masters Surfing Championships in El Salvador and so the team logically got gold, the Australian Owen Wright won the Quiksilver Pro New York, and so on, and so on.

But 2011 featured some highlights for Surf-Devil and its users as well. In our retrospect we give you a résumé...

Let's start in Munich, the ultimate capital of Riversurfing:

We haven't only been guests at the „Eisbach“ to bring you scenes from the FUS River Surf Jam, but have also visited the ISPO and the 2nd Munich Surf Festival. Furthermore the city celebrated a premiere with performing the first Surf&Style European Championships at Munich airport. Of course we didn't miss out on this event and we've been live on spot when Gerry Schlegel was crowned first European champion in “stationary wave riding“. Marlon Lipke also joined the contest and was spontaneously willing to give us an interview.

Our hometown, the city of Hamburg, also featured some nice stories:

for instance we have met the very likeable David Grabe and created the unique article „Surf meets Music“ after our conversation. Furthermore we have met the main actors Mark Methiews and Richie Vas for an interview on the day of the movie's „Fighting Fear“ premiere in Germany. Not too far from Hamburg we have visited the „Nord Welle Bispingen“ ( "North Wave Bispingen" ), because we were searching for the „King of the Küste“ at the 4th Hamburg Surf-Festival. We actually found the king: Gerry Schlegel. The developer of the surf-facility in Bispingen, Rainer Klimaschewski, also attended the event and answered all our questions about the artificial wave.

We have even left cold Germany!

Once again it wasn't only hordes of students that went on a pilgrimage to sunny France to attend the Quiksilver German Champs, but also the Surf-Devil team. Alexander Tesch rocked the coast of Mimizan an won the open, while Kira Grön made the first place amongst the women. The longboard titles went to Thomas Schmidt and Janni Hönscheid. Arne Bergwinkl and Virginia Giesen got the crownes for the juniors. On the isle of Fuerteventura we got insight on the art of board-shapening and immediately issued a report on it. We also shouldn't forget the seventh interview in our 6+6+6 series for which Peruvian Benoit „Piccolo“ Clemente kindly answered our questions.

Thanks a lot to all of you for your support!
We wish you an exciting 2012 – your Surf-Devil Team
