Aussies rule professional surfing 2009!

Mick Fanning won the ASP World Title in front of fellow countryman Joel Parkinson, Taj Burrow gained victory at the last ASP Contest of the year (Pipeline Masters) and Stephanie Gilmore won the ASP ladies title. All mentioned surfers are Australians...

Mick Fanning won his second ASP World Title at the last contest of the year. A 9th place at the Billabong Pipeline Master was enough for the 28-year-old Aussie surfer, because his biggest competitor, fellow countryman and mate Joel Parkinson was eliminated surprisingly early in the 3rd round.

In the end, Taj Burrow won the event - another Australian who beat the nine-time world champion Kelly Slater (USA) in the final.

ASP Women's Champ 2009 is once again the 21-year-old Stephanie Gilmore, already for the third time in a row. Of course, Steph is from Australia, too...
