For centuries, sailors have spun yarns about enormous waves, so high that they violate the laws of physics... Just horror stories, one would think... But at least since in February 2000 a British research vessel was trapped in the vortex of such a monster wave, the stories have proven to be true. While scientists struggle to decipher the monster wave phenomenon, surfers regard it as a sporting challenge.
In her book "The Wave", the author Susan Casey tells about colossal waves and the people who are after them...
Extreme surfers like the legendary Laird Hamilton have set themselves to conquer just those monsters of the oceans on their surfboards. Susan Casey followed them, and her book "The Wave" is the exciting outcome of her travels.
